Recipe: Homemade Fresh Avocado Salsa (Guacamole)

This recipe has been a summer staple at home since I started making it in 2008 for a PE requirement in UP Diliman. Every summer (during avocado season), I buy lots of avocado to make bowls of this savory, healthy avocado salsa (aka guacamole). And now I’ve decided to share the recipe on my blog (lucky you)!

Time to make: 30-40 mins

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 large avocado, diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced and seeded
  • 1/2 cup red onion (optional)
  • 1 big green chili, minced and seeded
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
  • Black pepper (optional, to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon
Ingredients

HOW TO MAKE IT

  1. Prepare and slice/dice all the ingredients then add in the avocado.
  2. Mix in a bowl using a spoon then add olive oil, salt, pepper (optional), and squeeze of lemon
  3. Chill for at least 2 hours and serve with your favorite tortilla chips.
Slice and dice

Remember: Due to the soft nature of avocado pulp, mixing the ingredients with a spoon will naturally squash it into a smoother paste-like texture. Make sure not to crush too hard because after refrigerating for a day, the avocados tend to water up naturally and mix with the olive oil and lemon. This might soak the other ingredients in your salsa and dilute the taste. Just be gentle and feel free to mix further upon serving.

FINISHED PRODUCT

This is a perfect way to snack healthy and munch on a bit of tortilla chips (Tostitos original or lime does it for me) without feeling extra guilty. An alternative would be to pair it with chicken breast or steamed fish, coz why not?

Doesn’t it look amazing??
