Review: Kanebo Suisai Beauty Clear Powder

Japan’s Enzyme Clear Powder: Is it effective?

Osaka, Japan.

Traveling always makes me feel giddy and ecstatic. I recall my first time in Japan was quite surreal. Apart from all the food I wanted to stuff inside my belly, I read about the affordable skincare products that can be bought in Japanese drugstores, which are practically found everywhere!

I shopped my beauty haul from the Matsumoto Kiyoshi drugstore with blue and yellow sign in Dotonbori, Osaka (near the Glico man). All the bestselling products like Anessa sunscreen, DHC cleansing oil, collagen supplements, etc were already displayed at the storefront to lure tourists inside. Of course the girl scout in me already had a list of products I wanted to buy and one of these was the Kanebo Suisai beauty clear powder, a compact powder cleanser I read about online (and with highly positive reviews).

PACKAGING

A clear pack contains 0.4g x 32 pieces of single-use hexagon-shaped pods. It’s fun, compact, and easy to use. This is perfect for traveling since you won’t have to worry about product leaks or liquid hand-carry restrictions!

Kanebo Suisai Beauty Clear Powder

I got the twin pack since it was on bundled discount. I just can’t remember exactly how much I paid, but the standard retail price of each pack costs approximately US$19 or JPY 2000.

PRODUCT

Appearance: White powder/granules

Smell: None

Texture: When dry, it looks and feels like baby powder. After mixing with water, it becomes a milky, white lather that is smooth on the palm.

Shelf Life: There’s no expiry date stamped on the pack, only a 4-digit batch code, which you may check here. With this kind of enzyme clear powder, I would assume the shelf life is between 2-3 years.

HOW TO USE

  • Open the cube using the foil lid, pour the white powder on your palm
  • Add warm water and spread gently on to your face. The white foam feels very milky and creamy on the skin.
  • Rinse, wipe, and voila!

RESULTS

Don’t be deceived by its looks. Each capsule may look small but is really effective in hydrating the face and stripping off unnecessary oil. I appreciate how my skin feels kind of exfoliated (but not too much) and refreshed after rinsing off the product.

Suisai beauty cleanser is a good complement to my current facial wash (Neutrogena deep clean), which I’ve been using for more than a decade now. I recommend using this powder cleanser 1-2 times per week, since it also doubles up as a gentle exfoliator, and can be integrated easily into anyone’s skincare regime.

However, to be honest, it is expensive to use daily especially when you’re just at home. This product is perfect for travelers and people on-the-go and I would only use it to complement my weekly routine.

Note: For those who have dry and extra sensitive skin, try it out first before using regularly because the powder / exfoliating ingredients might have a drying effect on your skin. Let me know how it works for you by leaving comments below!

Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely! But I think a pack of 32 capsules is enough. It’s a travel must-have that leaves more room for other skincare products in my toiletry kit!
